Mastermind Shiraz 2008: Deep dense dark and brooding in colour with a stunning rim of purple/red in the glass. The nose is hedonistic with rich ripe plums and loads of primary spices including fennel, black pepper, with mocha and coffee highlights. The palate is unctuous with superb velvet tannins and incredible intense length. The wine is big and rich, yet soft and silky with beautiful plums, coffee, vanilla and fennel all lingering around the mouth for ages. Mouth watering! Vintage: 2008 was a great year for ripening with a heat wave in mid March. The Willunga vineyard has a strong coastal influence and with good canopy and water management we were able to avoid any spike in Baume. The vineyards on the Northern Ridge produced some of the best fruit of the 2008 vintage; the south facing slopes provide a cooler microclimate with some maritime influences which lengthened the ripening period. The Willunga vineyard produces lovely rich plum flavours and the Northern Ridge vineyards produce spice, fennel and mocha. A perfect blend. Cellaring: Drink now and for the next 5-8years.
